EAA’s Philanthropic Mission

At the turn of the twentieth century, bicycle mechanics Orville and Wilbur Wright unlocked the secrets of powered flight. In 1953, EAA began leading the way in promoting the joy and freedom of flight for future generations.

For over 50 years, EAA and its members have embraced their role in the stewardship of the American aviation legacy by supporting a variety of programs and services designed to protect it and pass it on to future generations.

As a member of EAA, you already know that your association provides aviation enthusiasts the right resources and community to help them pursue their aviation dreams. EAA offers information, guidance, and instruction to recreational aviation’s hands-on participants who build and/or fly aircraft for fun. These programs, along with EAA’s vast chapter network and AirVenture, a “family reunion” of aviation enthusiasts, also foster a community of support and encouragement.

What you may not know is that EAA counts on donations from engaged aviation enthusiasts like you to support the association’s philanthropic causes in several key areas:

  • We prepare the future of aviation by exposing approximately 100,000 youth annually to the joy of flight through EAA Young Eagles flying activities and complementary youth-education programs. EAA has inspired more than 1.2 million youth since these programs’ inception in 1992. Today, youth who have participated in the EAA Young Eagles program are now enrolled in every major collegiate aviation program in the U.S. and in all of the nation’s military service academies. In addition, selected schools throughout the country have adopted the EAA Young Eagles program as an important science-learning tool in their curricula.

  • We preserve aviation’s proud heritage by operating a world-class museum stocked with one-of-a-kind displays and activities celebrating aviation, and by living aviation history through the restoration and flying of unique and historic aircraft such as a B-17 bomber and a Ford Tri-motor. Aviation’s history teaches the lessons and provides the inspiration for our next achievements.

  • We protect the right to fly through ongoing advocacy in government and industry. The revolution in aviation being ushered in by the newly adopted Sport Pilot category of recreational flight is the result of an unrelenting, 10-year EAA campaign. Now, we’re working with equal diligence to ensure smooth implementation and the establishment of infrastructure to support this category of flight that significantly lowers the cost and time-commitment barriers to participation in personal flight. Other government- and industry-relations initiatives aim to reinforce the regulations allowing enthusiasts to build and fly their own airplanes, and to forestall attempts to assign unnecessary taxes and user fees to the pursuit of recreational flight.

If enjoying aviation and preserving our aviation legacy are important to you, we would appreciate your support. Please RETURN TO THE EAA MEMBERSHIP JOIN/RENEW PAGE and select an amount that is comfortable for you and that meaningfully contributes to this worthwhile work.
